"The harder you work, the luckier you get." This is one of my favorite quotes! There are a few versions of it, one from Thomas Jefferson, one from golf great Gary Player, and probably others. I love it because it so clearly explains my stance on luck: you make your luck.

I feel incredibly honored and fortunate to have the position of Head Strength & Conditioning Coach of the LA Lakers. I'm also completely aware that nothing is guaranteed or forever in this business. This is why I work each day to take advantage of this opportunity and experience for as long as I have it.

Sure, things fell into my lap from time to time. Looking back at those moments though, I realize that they were always preceded by periods of tremendous effort applied to very basic or unimpressive projects. This has happened too many times to be a coincidence.

I've had ridiculous amounts of help from great people along the way and for that I'm grateful. That being said, the way I see it is I've made my luck. Not only that, but I'm always in control of the one thing that can make more: working my ass off.

If you want to do great things you better be savagely anchored to relentlessly working for what you want from start to finish. You will struggle to find luck or success until you understand and carry out this approach in everything you do.
