Hi, my name is Matthew Ibrahim.
I am not someone who you would call a 'runner', but once I learned more about Plummer Youth Promise, I knew that I had to get involved.
You could certainly learn more about Plummer Youth Promise at their website: www.plummeryouthpromise.org. However, I would love to outline what they stand for, which is something that truly resonated and hit home with me.
Each year in the United States, more than 23,000 young adults leave the foster care system with no family they can count on. These young people face grim outcomes, including high rates of homelessness, unemployment, early parenting and lack of education. The Run for Plummer team is running the 2020 Boston Marathon because we believe it doesn’t have to be that way.
Founded in 1855 on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Plummer Youth Promise is a non-profit organization serving young people who are in or at risk of entering the foster care or juvenile justice systems. Plummer offers direct care through its residential and community-based programs. Plummer’s innovative approach has gained national attention and has become a model for similar social services agencies. As such, Plummer shares best practices with partners through training and consultation. The Plummer Promise is to work to ensure every youth in its care has someone to call family – someone unconditionally committed to nurture, protect and guide them to successful adulthood.
I feel honored with the opportunity to represent the Plummer Youth Promise non-profit organization as I embark on this journey of running the 2020 Boston Marathon on Monday, April 20. I would love your support toward helping me pay it forward to the Plummer Youth Promise program, which is centered around family, support and community.
Here at TD Athletes Edge, we also center everything around family, support and community. Once I learned of this incredible program from client and dear friend, Molly Cook, I immediately knew that I needed to run for them. Having a 'why' behind doing what you do will always serve to be more powerful and valuable, which is why I wanted to give back.
In addition to serving as Co-Owner, Director of Strength & Conditioning and Internship Coordinator here at TD Athletes Edge (Salem, MA), I am also an Adjunct Professor in the Exercise Science department at Endicott College (Beverly, MA). Having all of these strong ties within the North Shore community allows me to truly call this place my home.
As such, I am reaching out to you to ask for your help in giving back to this community that I call home through donating to the Plummer Youth Promise as a way to pay it forward to the next generation.
